Sensorio at a Glance
- Where: 4380 Highway 46 East, Paso Robles, CA 93446
- Tickets: General admission (Total Glow) starts at $65 adult and $30 child, plus fees. Terrace Experience starts at $110 adult and $85 child.
- Where to buy: Only through Sensorio or TIXR. Resold tickets are void and will not be honored.

Is Sensorio Worth It?
The short answer is yes, as long as you know what you are walking into. Sensorio is a walk, not a show. Nothing starts at a set time, there are no seats, and nobody narrates. You wander a dark hillside for about two hours while the light does all the work.
That is exactly what makes it magical for some people and underwhelming for others, so it is worth being honest about both.
It is worth the ticket if you like slow, visual, unhurried experiences; you are traveling with children old enough to walk and look rather than be entertained; you want photographs you genuinely cannot take anywhere else; or you are already in Paso Robles for the wine and want somewhere to go once the tasting rooms close.
You might want to skip it if you are hoping for rides, narration or anything interactive; you have a toddler who will not last two hours outdoors in the dark; or you are driving three hours each way from the Bay Area for this and nothing else. Sensorio rewards you far more as part of a Paso Robles weekend than as a single-purpose errand.

FOSO: Fiber Optic Symphonic Orchestra — a mesmerizing new exhibit by Bruce Munro — is Sensorio’s most radiant symphony yet.
Waves of light pulse in rhythm with orchestral soundscapes, creating an immersive environment where color and sound converge.
As glowing fiber-optic forms rise into the night like illuminated trees, the experience feels less like an exhibit and more like stepping inside a living, breathing dream.
It’s a journey through radiant wonder that touches both the senses and the soul.
DIMENSIONS by HYBYCOZO: Where Shadows Dance and Music Illuminates the Soul
As dusk settled over Sensorio, I found myself drawn to a captivating constellation of geometric sculptures that seemed to pulsate with an otherworldly energy.
This was DIMENSIONS — a luminous fusion of art, mathematics, and sound — created by HYBYCOZO in collaboration with musician Alen Hulsey.
Though no longer the newest addition to Sensorio, its presence remains timeless, transforming space into a meditative journey of light and shadow.
The towering metal structures, intricately woven with patterns and perforations, transformed into mesmerizing canvases of light and shadow as darkness fell.
Each piece seemed to hold a secret, inviting me to explore its depths and discover the hidden beauty within.
As I wandered through the exhibit, I couldn’t help but feel like I had entered a realm where dreams and reality intertwined.
The hypnotic soundtrack, composed primarily on the kanun, a traditional string instrument, added another layer of enchantment to the experience.
The music resonated with the geometric patterns of the sculptures, creating a harmonious symphony of light, sound, and form.
As I played with the interactive spinning elements, my own shadow became a part of the art, dancing and weaving among the intricate shapes.
It was a truly immersive experience that blurred the lines between observer and participant, allowing me to connect with the art on a deeper, more personal level.
DIMENSIONS is more than just an exhibit; it’s a portal to another dimension, where the boundaries of time and space dissolve, and the universal language of geometry, light, and music speaks to the very core of our being.

Sparking Curiosity: Conversations with My Little Art Critics
My two-year-old son, a budding shape enthusiast, was in absolute awe. As we wandered through the towering structures, his little voice echoed with excitement: “Mommy, look! A square! Oh, it’s a polygon! And that’s a BIG triangle!”
His tiny fingers traced the outlines of the shapes, his face lit up with the joy of discovery.
My tech-savvy husband, Siddhartha, an AI research scientist and Googler, was drawn into a fascinating conversation with our eight-year-old daughter. As the mesmerizing sculptures of DIMENSIONS whirled and spun, he posed a thought-provoking question: “Look at the shadows on the ground. Do you notice how they seem to move faster the further away they are from the sculpture? Why do you think that happens?”
Our daughter, initially puzzled, tilted her head and observed the shadows closely.
After a moment, Siddhartha explained, “It’s because the shadows are created by light passing through the patterns in the sculptures. When you are closer to the sculpture, the patterns of light and shadow are more compact, so any movement appears slower. But as you move further away, the patterns spread out and the same amount of movement covers a larger area, making it appear faster.”
This was just the beginning of an afternoon filled with questions, observations, and unexpected connections.
As we continued our exploration of DIMENSIONS, we were reminded of the power of art to spark curiosity and conversation, no matter the age.
Field of Light: An Electric Symphony of Nature
The first time I saw it, I gasped. It was as if the earth itself had erupted in a silent, luminous bloom.
A hundred thousand stemmed orbs, each glowing like a jewel, stretched across the rolling hills, a shimmering tapestry of color against the darkening sky. This was Bruce Munro’s Field of Light, and I was utterly captivated.
A wave of familiarity washed over me, reminiscent of another enchanting evening spent at the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, California. The captivating exhibits also created by Bruce Munro, like Bacchus’ Spring, Silver Sea, Reepicheep’s Wave, and Ramandu’s Table, had once ignited a similar sense of wonder within me.
Munro’s artistic vision extends far beyond mere aesthetics. He sought to evoke an emotional response in his viewers, to spark a sense of awe and wonder that transcends the boundaries of language. And in that regard, Field of Light is a resounding success.
While walking amidst the field of light at Sensorio in Paso Robles, I felt as if I were witnessing a microcosm of life itself.
The dark and vibrant hues, representing the ebb and flow of joys and sorrows, illuminated under the boundless expanse of the night sky, a symbol of eternity and the vast unknown.
The scene unfolded like a magnificent painting, each individual light a brushstroke contributing to the larger, intricate masterpiece that is existence. Just as every life can be seen as a unique story painted on a grand canvas, so too did this field of light tell a tale of resilience, beauty, and the interconnectedness of all things.
The twinkling stars above the glowing field were a breathtaking sight, a harmonious convergence of celestial and earthly light.
I left Field of Light feeling renewed and inspired, a gentle glow still lingering within me. The memory of that night will forever be etched in my mind, a reminder that beauty can be found in the most unexpected places, and that even the simplest of things can hold profound meaning.

His sister, ever the patient elder sibling, crouched down to his level, a twinkle in her eye. “Yes, silly, they do look like lollipops! But what else could they be? Maybe they’re magical flowers or fairy lights guiding us through the night?”
In that moment, the field of light transformed into a playground of imagination, where lollipops bloomed and fireflies danced!
The experience reminded us that children possess an unparalleled capacity for wonder, a gift that allows them to see the world through a kaleidoscope of endless possibilities.

As I strolled through Sensorio, I came upon a sight that left me awestruck: Light Towers by Bruce Munro. This enchanting installation, featuring 69 towers composed of more than 17,000 wine bottles, was nothing short of mesmerizing.
Each bottle, illuminated with glowing optic fibers, created a vibrant tapestry of color and light that seemed to dance to an ethereal musical score.
The Light Towers, which opened in 2021, pay tribute to the over 200 wineries and vineyards that blanket Paso Robles‘ beautiful rolling hills.
As someone who has always been captivated by the beauty of wine country, this exhibit felt like a celebration of both art and the land it honors.
Fireflies: A Luminous Dance of Literary Inspiration
As I wandered through Sensorio, I stumbled upon the magical world of Fireflies by Bruce Munro.
Nearly 10,000 points of white light, floating and swaying on optical fibers, transformed the landscape into an ethereal dreamscape.
Inspired by “Kim” by Rudyard Kipling and “Siddhartha” by Hermann Hesse, Fireflies opened in 2023 and instantly transported me to a realm of wonder and whimsy.
The gentle breeze orchestrated a hypnotic dance of light, each point mimicking the delicate movements of fireflies. A sense of peace washed over me, connecting me to the rhythms of nature.
Munro’s vision of light as a bridge between the mind, body, and soul was vividly realized in this enchanting installation.
Munro’s ability to transform a simple walk into a profound experience is a testament to his artistic genius. Fireflies invites us to see the world through a lens of magic and possibility, finding beauty in the fleeting and ephemeral.

As I continued my exploration of Sensorio, I stumbled upon Bruce Munro’s latest installation, Gone Fishing.
Opened in 2023, this exhibit offers a playful yet profound interpretation of an introspective pastime. Featuring 30 semi-circular arrays, each with 25 multicolored fishing rods, Gone Fishing immediately drew me in with its whimsical charm and serene beauty.
Standing amidst the gentle glow of fiber optic blooms, I was transported to a tranquil place reminiscent of peaceful days spent by a stream.
The installation resonated with peace. I wandered among the glowing rods, feeling a kinship with the solitary angler, patiently waiting for a nibble from the universe. The gentle swaying, the soft hum of the lights, the hushed whispers – all contributed to an atmosphere of meditative calm.
Munro’s fascination with the introspective act of fishing was evident in every detail. Fishing, as he suggests, is a metaphor for our journey through life. We cast our lines, hoping to catch a glimpse of something meaningful, something that will nourish our souls.
Gone Fishing invites us to step away from the hustle and bustle and embrace the quietude of reflection. It’s a reminder that solitude is not loneliness, but an opportunity to recharge, to reassess, and to find solace in simply being.
Leaving the exhibit, I carried a newfound appreciation for the art of fishing – not as a means to an end, but as a journey in itself.
Woven Glow by Sensorio
On the gentle path from HYBYCOZO to Bruce Munro’s radiant installations, I came across Woven Glow — a handcrafted Sensorio-original that felt like a quiet breath between symphonies.
Sculpted walls curved with intention, layered in luminous strands that shimmered like woven silk.
Inspired by the textures and rhythms of the Paso Robles landscape, this glowing corridor celebrates the art of weaving — inviting guests not just to walk through light, but to pause, reflect, and feel held by it.
Family-Friendly Features: Fun and Convenience for All Ages
Sensorio isn’t just a haven for art lovers; it’s also a fantastic destination for families. Here are some of the family-friendly features that make it an ideal outing for visitors of all ages.
Family Nights: Every Thursday from June 5 through August 15, enjoy special Family Nights, during which children (ages 4-12) get half-off admission. It’s the perfect opportunity to share the magic of Sensorio with your little ones.
Kid-Friendly Fun: Let the kids roam free and explore the wide-open spaces, perfect for running and playing under the stars. Interactive elements within the exhibits, like the spinning components in DIMENSIONS BY HYBYCOZO, invite kids to engage with the art hands-on. Plus, the expansive lawn area near the new event stage is dotted with fire pits, comfy chairs, and games, perfect for relaxing and unwinding together.
Amenities: Rest assured, Sensorio has you covered with clean restrooms and stroller-accessible paths, making your family outing comfortable and enjoyable. And when hunger strikes, you can grab a bite at the full-service Mercado restaurant and bar, or enjoy a local beer, wine, or non-alcoholic beverage at one of the Airstream Bars scattered throughout the venue.
The SLO CAL Crafted market was a highlight of my evening, offering a delightful array of unique crafts and goods from local artisans. It was the perfect way to bring home a piece of the Sensorio magic.
A Night to Remember: Witnessing the wonder in your children’s eyes as they marvel at the luminous landscapes is an experience you won’t soon forget. Be sure to catch the nightly live music on the new event stage, which adds an extra layer of magic to the atmosphere.

Where to Stay Near Sensorio
Sensorio only comes alive after dark, and by the time you have wandered the whole field you will not feel like a long drive home. Staying the night also frees up the next morning for Paso Robles wine country, which is the real reason to make a weekend of it.
Allegretto Vineyard Resort – The closest comfortable base to Sensorio, just a few minutes away. It is built around a courtyard and its own vineyard, with an art collection scattered through the grounds — a fitting follow-on from a night of light installations.
Paso Robles Inn – Right on the downtown square, within walking distance of the tasting rooms and restaurants. The historic building has its own mineral hot springs, and it puts you in the middle of town rather than out on the highway.

Is Sensorio good for kids?
Yes. It is a self-guided outdoor walk rather than a show with seats or a schedule, so children can move at their own pace. Bear in mind it is dark, outdoors and involves a fair bit of walking, so younger children may tire before you have seen everything.
Can you buy Sensorio tickets at the door?
Sometimes. Limited walk-up tickets are sold when parking space allows, and you must arrive no later than 60 minutes before closing. Onsite sales are card only. Buying online is the only way to guarantee entry.
Is there food at Sensorio?
Yes. Food, wine, beer and spirits are sold onsite, and some areas are card only. You cannot bring your own food or drink. Only sealed water bottles or empty personal water containers are allowed in.
Can you bring a tripod to Sensorio?
No. Tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, stabilizers and professional cameras that are not handheld are all prohibited, as are drones and external lighting. Handheld photos and video are welcome.
What happens at Sensorio if it rains?
Sensorio stays open in light rain. Refunds are only given if the venue officially closes for weather. If it stays open, ticket holders can request a credit for another date, subject to availability.
How far is Sensorio from the San Francisco Bay Area?
Roughly 2.5 hours from San Jose, about 3 hours from San Francisco and just under 3.5 hours from Oakland, so it works best as a weekend trip rather than a day trip.
