Information crisscrosses across the globe every quarter of a second; we crisscross real and virtual worlds with the tip of our fingers; the age of no unknown and the age where cloud is no longer limited to those visible collections of particles of water in the air.
And we all owe these to the beautiful, bright and the best minds of the Silicon Valley, which is located in the northern part of the U.S. State of California.
Silicon Valley is not a perfectly defined area, but the heart of it is Santa Clara County or Santa Clara Valley, which was once known as “The Valley of Heart’s Delight“.

The name Silicon Valley
Silicon Valley, was formerly known as the “Valley of Heart’s Delight“. 11th January, 2017 marked the 46th anniversary of the first known appearance in print of the name Silicon Valley.
It is believed that the founder of Ion Equipment Corp Ralph Vaerst suggested this name to Electronic News reporter Don Hoefler.
The journalist wrote a report on local silicon computer-chip companies under the heading “Silicon Valley USA”. That report was published on January 11th, 1971.
The name stuck.

Truly, it is the valley of heart’s delight. It has a charm that is unique to this land.
Silicon in Silicon Valley
Like everybody I too knew that the word “silicon” in Silicon Valley originally referred to a large number of silicon chip innovators and manufacturers in the San Francisco Bay area.
Now when any of us hear the term Silicon Valley, we instantly relate to it as an epitome of high-tech industry in the United States.
But I always wondered about the “Valley” in Silicon Valley.

When I first landed in San Jose and took a cab to reach our destination, the first thing I noticed is the valley, the golden-hued sparkling valley.
The “valley” in Silicon Valley refers to the Santa Clara Valley in Santa Clara County, which includes the city of San Jose and surrounding cities.

Much to my surprise, one fine cloudy morning in late March, after days of incessant rains, I saw the golden valley turn into a sea of green.

Silicon valley roads always remind me that it has some of the smartest engineers and technology business people in the world
On that morning, the clouds were drifting across the valley, and the winds longed to play with my tied hair.
A romantic girl that resides silently in me, awoke and walked with me in the mist of the valley. That was the first day I saw a poetic Silicon Valley.

The green valley opens its arm to imagination- be it scientific or philosophical

The valley has something in it that inspires you to take new challenges; to try; to dream; to prosper
Rediscovering a poetic Silicon Valley
After all, this is the birthplace of the famous poet Robert Frost. One of his famous quotes comes to my mind, that lights up my eyes with dreams and makes me awake like never before.
Accept no one’s definition of your life; define yourself.
To me, now, the Silicon Valley is the juxtaposition of man made progression and nature’s bounty.
