Celebrating Experiences

Sunflower studded summer sunset in California!

I visited Winters in California in July, one late afternoon to witness a sunflower studded summer sunset.

Needless to say, every picture that I captured through my camera is like poetry in a frame.

If you live in and around the San Francisco Bay Area, then these fields of blooming sunflowers in Winters are a must-see.

Woodland or Dixon in Yolo County too are good options to see these beautiful and blooming sunflower fields in northern California, early July being the best time to visit.

Understandably, the sunflowers have become a tourist attraction in Yolo County.

A memory of a blooming sunset – a video!

When I pulled over my car near an enormous field full of sunflowers, I saw the evening sun had spread a buttery glow. It felt surreal. No wonder that the vibrant, strong, and sturdy sunflowers were a favorite subject of the maestro – Vincent Van Gogh.

An ode to sunflowers!

Sunflower splendor!

Although I spent a short amount of time amidst the sunflowers in Winters, California, the beauty seeped into my memories and that’s invaluable. Beauty has always paid a role in forming, influencing, and shaping my creative pursuit and journey.

Make beautiful memories amidst sunflowers!

Plan a trip to a sunflower field around sunrise or sunset for stunning photographs and add a dash of gold in your Instagram and personal albums.

Although ephemeral, these fields full of million suns are worth your attention and time.

They have a long-lasting effect on the mind and soul because beauty is powerful. Also, under the spell of beauty, we experience a rare condition called plenitude, when we want nothing more.

And believe me, that feeling is medicinal in this consumerist world.

I used my Canon 80 D to frame this!

Wear a beautiful and vibrant summer dress. If you are a mom to a beautiful daughter (like me!), choose a lovely flower dress for your daughter.

Happy vibes and a lasting memory!

Choose a destination in Winters, Dixon or Woodland in northern California.

I visited Winters and saw many fields. I just pulled over to the one which was off-road and with a convenient parking space.

I got this flower dress for her especially for our trip to the sunflower fields!

Be respectful of the plants while visiting the sunflower fields. They are privately held by the local farmers.

I believe a flower is an epitome of expression. Whenever I see blooming flowers, irrespective of any season, I too feel like expressing and creating.

Whenever I see flowers, I feel an incessant urge to frame them with my camera and later with words and share them with you.

Here are a few such articles I wrote after seeing flowers in different surroundings and countries.

All the articles here are vibrant and refreshing – two charming qualities of the flower. I hope you like reading them and looking at the beautiful microcosm of flowers.

Travel Realizations

Under the wide blue California sky, feel the soft heart-beat of contentment, while seeing fields full of shining sunflowers.

And after a few weeks, when you will be sitting in a cozy corner of your house like me, the sunflower moments will hum a silent lullaby in your ears.

Once it does, edit some photographs, express your feelings through your words or write it down somewhere.

Create art imbued with real-life experience and beauty. The end result is exhilarating because creativity makes us feel alive, joyous, and realigns us with our better selves.

My ode to sunflowers will remain incomplete if I don’t mention a couple of lines from the poem Ah Sunflower! by William Blake.

Ah Sun-flower! weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the Sun:
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the travellers journey is done.

I had seen sunflower fields near Nashik and in Ukraine and truly loved it. Sunflowers are always a great sight. I never knew that California too has wonderful sunflower fields. I would now definitely go for this drive when I visit west coast US in my next trip. Your daughter really looks cute in her floral dress and with flowers in backdrop.

How beautiful! It reminds me of home – we have many sunflower fields in South Africa and catching the sunset over them adds a special touch.

  3. I must admit that whenever I see sunflowers they make me smile. But I have not yet visited a full field of sunflowers. I might be grinning for a long time. I will have to plan this for our next visit to California. Thanks for brightening my day with your video.

I’ve always wanted to travel north from Los Angeles during California Poppy season to go to the reserves to see the orange and yellow poppies there … I think I need to add the sunflower sightings to my list too!
