As soon as I entered Rams Horn Village Resort, in Estes Park, Colorado, soothing greenery embraced my eyes. The moment I stepped out of my car, the autumn wind swept a fallen leaf just in front of my feet. I took that leaf in my hand and looked in front; I saw a bending road ahead adorned with leaves; some pale and some in deep colors. I saw an empty hammock swinging alone. Perhaps there was someone a few minutes ago. As I walked down the bending road and heard the crunching leaves below my feet, a quintessential autumn feeling washed over me. One needs to stay here to experience. Book your stay at Rams Horn Village Resort – an award-winning mountain cabin resort located at the entrance to spectacular Rocky Mountain National Park.

I called this place our home for a few days.

A beautiful bending road with scattered leaves; a quintessential autumn scene.
I loved the warm welcome in this home away from home by the flaming foliage, a print out that said: “Welcome Chirasree” and a bowl full of fresh fruits on the table.
Rams Horn Village Resort – A home away from home!
Next day morning, I made a cup of hot coffee and sat down on the bench placed just beside the bedroom. It was a small patio and became my favorite place during my stay. I looked up and saw the vast blue sky which seemed eternal. I loved the golden leaves of the aspen trees swaying and swishing against the backdrop of the blue sky.

When nature becomes art!
My eyes were full of colors, my heart feeling the ephemeral joy that the autumnal colors bring, my feet were eager to dance along in the fallen leaves and my mind was brimming with inspiration. On the bench, where I kept my notebook, I saw a few fallen leaves on it; I named that frame – an unfinished poetry.

An unfinished poetry!
During the day I spent hours sitting outside and listening to the rustling of autumn leaves. Autumn is an art here!

A stroll with my daughter
When I saw my daughter curiously seeing a fallen leaf in her hand and a green leaf in a tree, I tried explaining to her why leaves change color during autumn as simply as I could. I explained to her that these colors are always present in the trees, but masked by the deep green color of chlorophyll that helps absorb light. When the weather gets cold and sunlight becomes limited, the trees break down the chlorophyll in the leaves and send them to the roots for survival – revealing red, orange and yellow pigments.

Two curious eyes!
I saw two bright and beautiful eyes full of wonder when Chirantana (my daughter) saw trees full of apples and peaches. She loved her tree man too.

Chirantana keenly watched the apple tree and tried to pluck some apples too! I lovingly called her – My little Newton.
After a while, when she saw a beautiful playground with swings and a slide, she couldn’t wait to start playing. A child is happy when she is free and when she is close to nature.

I loved watching her play especially when the autumn wind was swaying the aspen trees.
Our visit to the clubhouse and library
When I saw the beautiful clubhouse, I felt the place was just perfect for some reflection and contemplation.

Both I and my daughter met Alice and some conversation sparked. My daughter sang many songs to her and quickly became friends.

Friends!
She enjoyed her reading and puzzle time inside the library.

A beautiful afternoon
Rams Horn Village Resort is located close to the Rocky Mountain National Park. We all went inside the park during the late afternoon, especially to see the elks. I will not forget that hour. The sunlight was passing through the clouds in the overcast sky and that evening light felt magical; the sky shone a different but beautiful shade of blue and the trees with golden leaves left us speechless.

The beautiful cloudy blue sky made everything picturesque
Finally, we saw not just one but many elks. On such an afternoon, when the light is magical and your child is amazed by the sight of elks, your heart whispers – ‘bliss’.

6 elks. Can you find more?
Rendezvous with deer in the evening
Chirantana enjoyed talking with the deer who visited us during the setting sun.
