As soon as I entered my room, I stepped out onto the balcony before switching the lights on. A beautiful night, solemn silence, and thousands of sparkling stars above greeted me.
It was a string of joyful moments that filled life with aliveness—without rush and without engines. I loved how my weekend trip to this beautiful, small city of Carmel on the Pacific coast of California had begun.

I put on the lights, and warm light washed over the room, highlighting the plush fabrics and the carefully curated artwork!

Stepping into the exquisitely charming rooms at Hofsas House was exactly that.
Okay, this bedroom has me sold. It’s got style, it’s got comfort – might just have to stay in bed all-day!

You know those moments when something unexpected sparks a burst of joy? That’s how I felt discovering ‘The Art of Michael Parkes’.
The book was hidden in a bedside drawer, and I adored every single page.
Waking Up to the Wonders of Carmel at Hofsas House
No matter how late I sleep, I wake up early. I am a morning person; nothing refreshes me like the early hours of the morning.
During my weekend in Carmel, I woke up early as usual and loved how the white curtain added an orange glow to the morning light.
I wrapped myself in a cozy blanket, made a cup of coffee, and stepped out onto the balcony. Ahh, the fresh morning air, eye-soothing greenery, and the ocean emerged afar under the golden shimmer of the rising sun.
A white bird greeted me, “Good morning.” I savored all the saintly scenes.
After a while, I took a pen and diary and scribbled my thoughts.
A Delightful Continental Breakfast at Hofsas House
I loved the cozy and beautiful breakfast hall in Hofsas House. My daughter devoured her cupcakes, and Siddhartha couldn’t get enough of the utterly buttery, delicious croissants.
The fresh food was fantastic, but the warmth of the people touched me even more. I met Carrie, the owner and General Manager of Hofsas House, and we shared some happy and hearty moments together.
She helped me figure out the places to visit in Carmel, and when I asked her what she loves about the town, she said, “I love how I can walk to every corner without needing a car.”
Indeed, that walkability is a key part of Carmel’s charismatic charm.
Hofsas House and its surroundings
Stepping into Hofsas House is an experience in itself. Even before reaching the front desk, a sense of warmth and character washes over you.
A vibrantly colored mural adorns the entrance, setting the tone for a stay filled with artistic charm. This sense of thoughtful attention to detail continues throughout your stay.
On the wall, a beautiful and welcoming note awaited us, adding a personal touch that made us feel right at home.
Additional murals can be found throughout the hotel premises, each telling a unique story!
But the charm extends beyond the walls. After a delicious breakfast, we explored the hotel’s grounds and were greeted by a delightful surprise.
The air was filled with the fresh fragrance of flowers in a riot of colors – purples, reds, pinks, and even pops of yellow from cheerful lemons.
This wasn’t just a visual treat; it was a delightful encounter with nature. We, especially my daughter, loved seeing how bees were savoring honey from flowers, a rare sight for city dwellers!

With its silent, peaceful nights, sunshine-filled days, and vibrant European-style atmosphere, Carmel offers the perfect weekend escape.

Then, unwind on the pristine Carmel Beach for the ultimate coastal relaxation.
For a glimpse into California’s early history, the Carmel Mission offers a tranquil and fascinating experience.
And for those seeking a taste of adventure, Carmel’s surroundings hold endless treasures – the breathtaking Monterey Bay Aquarium, historic Cannery Row, the awe-inspiring sunsets of Asilomar State Beach, and the iconic Pebble Beach golf course are just a few highlights.

In Carmel, my go-to for a delicious and convenient bite is the 5th Avenue Deli. Their affordable menu is packed with tasty options – don’t miss the tamales and chicken samosas!
For a special treat, indulge in the breathtaking ocean views at the Beach House in Pacific Grove.
I savored a delicious sunset dinner of lamb shanks and beef stroganoff, the waves rolling by as the perfect backdrop. It was an unforgettable experience.
