On a quiet Saturday afternoon, you can drive up a hillside and walk into a place built on an entirely different set of values: stillness, selfless service, and radical hospitality.

The Sikh Gurdwara in San Jose isn’t just a stunning architectural landmark—it is the largest Gurdwara in North America.

Spread across forty peaceful acres, it holds a school, a free medical clinic, and a kitchen that runs every single day.

While the building itself was raised over the last few decades, underneath it all sits the practice of langar, a tradition older than every freeway and every founding myth Silicon Valley tells about itself.

They have been doing the exact same thing for more than five hundred years: feeding anyone who walks in. No questions. No payment. No expectation that you ever come back.

That contrast is the whole point. It is also the reason I keep coming back.
